![]() That disruptive out-of-control time period that separates Louis XVI from the Napoleonic Empire. One reason for my returning to the book again and again has to do with my intense interest in the time period in which Sabatini sets the action: the French Revolution. ![]() And that’s unusual for I rarely read a given book more than once. In fact, I have now read it around six times down through the years. So here is Question #2: As you have journaled your book-related thoughts, what kind of mental dialogue with yourself has resulted? In other words, what do you find is most helpful in enabling you get to the essence of a given book?įew historical novels are more beloved than this one. ![]() By responding (on Facebook), we could thereby get more discussions in motion. ![]() As mentioned in our January 29 blog, our daughter Michelle suggested we pose one question to our Book Club members each month. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Jean Simmons's Helen Lawson is sickeningly un-evil. When Hamel's brittle, unappealing Jennifer committed suicide, I was glad I didn't have to put up with her any longer! Bert Convy is gratingly awful as Tony, Catherine Hicks is dishwater-dull as Anne, and Lisa Hartman is hopelessly miscast as the toned-down Neely. Note the way she smokes her cigarettes-she's trying so hard to appear stylish and feminine that she looks like a drag queen. ![]() The only shock is seeing David (Last House on the Left) Hess as a Frenchman named Robaire! And the acting! Veronica Hamel is a terrible actress and has none of the delicate poignancy that Sharon Tate possessed. Neely herself goes from hell-on-heels to poor put-upon li'l sugarpie with eyes full of tears and a box full of "rainbows"-the term "dolls" is never used. Ted is no longer Neely's long-suffering bisexual husband, but her womanizing, domineering manager. It bears almost no relationship to the book-the storyline takes completely different directions, the material is diluted so much that it's rendered pointless, and the elements of the characters are entirely changed. However, why they had to make this ultra-bland piece of garbage is beyond me. I positively adore Jackie Susann's novel, and the 1967 version was a lot of fun (though it hardly did the book justice). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now, let’s get to the evidence… The DC Evidence When ranking the validity of different types of evidence, I’d consider the following in order: When it comes to much larger properties, the publisher sets the guideline that keeps contributing authors writing stories in the universe that “fit” in the continuity of what is expected for characters and events. When the property is written by a single creator, then that person is responsible for acknowledging what is or is not canon. In regards to fictional universes, canon refers to everything that is judged to be included in the history, setting, circumstances, and overall makeup of the property. Superman, Batman, and the other members of the JLA join forces with Captain America, Iron Man, and the many other Avengers to fight a threat so immense it threatens two entire dimensions.” This was the ultimate Marvel/DC event, featuring hundreds of character cameos as well as headlining bouts like Superman vs Thor!īut are the events that played out in this adventure considered canon? What is canon? JLA/Avengers, written by Kurt Busiek, is described on its Amazon page as “perhaps the most eagerly anticipated and memorable crossover of all time, as the Justice League of America unites with The Avengers. ![]() ![]() Willa Cather focused on depicting ethnic values of the different cultures of the various immigrants who came to Nebraska. Just as we do in real life what we see now was an idea before like the telephone was an idea and now it is real. Once we see the picture that is what we start working towards. The subconscious mind has the power to imagine whatever picture we portray to it with the help of what we choose to feed it with. These are not actually two minds but part or spheres of activity. It actually helps in manifesting what we believe. The subconscious mind (Sleeping mind, Deep self, Involuntary mind) – It cannot choose, it simply takes what you give and execute it.For eg- we choose the thoughts, beliefs, theories, and opinions, Whatever we believe will impact our subconscious mind.
